Inside Pleasuring the Lady: Portia

Pleasuring The Lady (The Pleasure Wars, Book 2)
Pleasuring The Lady
(The Pleasure Wars, Book 2)

On November 19, the second book in my series, The Pleasure Wars, will be out in all digital formats (to follow in paper about a year later). After the wild success of the first book in the series, Taken By the Duke, I know a lot of you are waiting for this book and are excited to see the story of Ava’s best friend Portia.

So who is Portia?

Well, if you’ve read the first book, you know she is a wallflower, kind and smart, as well as a good friend who loves Ava like a sister. But today I wanted to tell you a little more.

First, let’s talk about her appearance. I pictured Portia as a very unassuming beauty. She’s pretty, certainly, but there is nothing flashy or overtly sexy about her looks. She doesn’t attract attention with how she dresses (especially since her gowns are not particularly nice) and she likes disappearing into the wall thanks to a very painful history. When writing her story, I pictured her very much like this:

I love the ageless, timeless quality ad I think it reflects  Portia very well.

She is also a woman who has experienced great pain. Her mother went mad when she was a girl and her father and brother were both very irresponsible both with money and their cruel treatment of her. She lives in terror that her brother will have their mother institutionalized, a horrible fate during that time period.

And then there’s how she feels about Liam, Ava’s brother. Yes, she has had a crush on him for as long as she can remember, but the more I wrote her, the more I realized what she felt was a desire to be a true sister to Ava and a craving for kindness and belonging that she knew she would receive if she could forge a bond with Liam. And in fact, she still has these fleeting feelings for him when she goes into a dangerous underground masquerade to help Ava find him.

Only she finds a very different man there. A man she knows, a man who will change the course of her life forever. And she his. Who? Well, Marquis Miles Weatherfield, who you may recall from An Introduction to Pleasure. But we’ll talk more about him next week.

Sound interesting? Want to see Portia receive her highly deserved Happily Ever After? Pre-order it now at Amazon or Barnes and Noble, with other e-tailers coming soon! I truly love Portia and I love her story. I hope you all will, too!
