All These Upcoming Projects! :)

A couple of weeks ago, as I was putting things away in my office, I printed out my release schedule and tacked it up on my wall. I like being able to look over and see both my writing schedule and my release schedule. All these upcoming projects are so fun to think about (and I’m thinking about them all right now) but with a very few exceptions, I haven’t shared much about them with all of you.… [Read more...]

100 Questions No One Asks, Part 2

This is my continuation of the 100 Questions No One Ever Asks from Four Hats and a Frugal. Here is the second set of questions:

  1. DO YOU EVER COUNT YOUR STEPS WHEN YOU WALK?
Not usually. Unless I’m trying to measure something while I’m walking for some reason.
  2. HAVE YOU PEED IN THE WOODS?
Yes. In fact, I peed in the woods a couple of weeks ago during a hike in the mountains. #confessions
  3. HAVE YOU EVER POOPED IN THE WOODS?

The Ritual of Writing

Recently someone on Facebook asked me about the rituals I participate in as I prepare to write a book. Now if you know me, you know I don’t really believe in “muse”, I don’t listen to music when I write (though I’ve certainly been inspired by music in coming up with ideas for a story), etc. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have rituals that have to do with my writing and my books.

First off, I have a pretty specific order of how I get ready for a new book.… [Read more...]

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! It’s been a crazy year, so I’m afraid we didn’t decorate this year. I also have no idea how many kids to expect at our door, though I’ve been told it’s not many so I’m buying one bag of candy and hoping for the best.

I know Halloween is a favorite holiday amongst many. I’ve always liked it but never loved it. Of course it’s fun to dress up, but I’m not very good at applying makeup or doing fun things with my hair, so I always feel a little lost.… [Read more...]

100 Questions No One Asks, Part 1

If you know me, you’ll know I’m a list maker. I love lists. I even have a Pinterest Board called “A Life of Lists” and recently I was browsing that board and found this really fun blog about 100 Questions No One Ever Asks from a blog called Four Hats and a Frugal.

Now technically, I think you’re supposed to do this challenge as a series of videos, but as a writer, you know I’m going to WRITE my answers.… [Read more...]

October Recap

October is almost over, so it’s time for an October Recap. Here’s what’s been going on in Jess Michaels World in the past month:

  • After 3 months, we are getting settled in our new house. I’ve been up here since September. It isn’t perfect, we’re still working on getting settled furniture-wise and figuing out where to put things and what we need. But we’re home!
  • We’re also almost finished with our renovation. As with all renovation, it took longer than we thought but it’s almost all done now.

Fresh Friday: July 29, 2016

Welcome to Fresh Friday. Every Friday I’ll be posting a short excerpt from whatever I wrote or edited that week! This will usually be an unedited small excerpt and I don’t make any promises that every single thing I post will make it to a finished book (sometimes things get cut). But it’s a fun sneak peek at whatever is Fresh Friday!!

This week I’ve been working hard on One Summer of Surrender (Seasons 3, Stenfax and Elise’s story).… [Read more...]

July Recap

In just a few days, July will be gone, so it’s time for a July Recap. Here’s what’s been going on in Jess Michaels World in the past month:

  • An Affair in Winter is out – I can’t express to you all how excited I am to launch the Seasons series with An Affair in Winter (which came out July 12). I had the idea for this story several YEARS ago and have been chomping at the bit to write it.

On My Own

Everyone hold on to your hats, this week I’m on my own. I think most everyone knows that five years ago my husband retired from his job in the software industry and began working for me full-time. He manages everything in the business from payroll and taxes to formatting and uploading and all the stuff in between. This means we get to spend a lot of time together, as we both work from home.

People have two reactions when they hear that.… [Read more...]

Fresh Friday: July 22, 2016

Welcome to Fresh Friday. Every Friday I’ll be posting a short excerpt from whatever I wrote or edited that week! This will usually be an unedited small excerpt and I don’t make any promises that every single thing I post will make it to a finished book (sometimes things get cut). But it’s a fun sneak peek at whatever is Fresh Friday!!

This week I began work on the third Seasons book, which is Stenfax and Elise’s story:stenfaxandelise

This is the start and I’m so excited:

“I’m going home,” Stenfax said, not looking at his sister Felicity, nor at Gray and his wife Rosalinde, but continuing to stare into the spinning, laughing, all-too-loud crowd.… [Read more...]

Characters We Fall In Love With

We all have characters we fall in love with in television, movies and, of course, books. People who jump off the page and grab us by the arm and take us on their journey. When they laugh, we laugh. When they cry, we cry. As an author, I’m often asked if I have a favorite character I’ve written.

For writers, it’s different. I live in the heads of my characters as I write their books.… [Read more...]

The Joy of Projects

About a month ago, I wrote a blog about ideas and today I’m talking about a different kind of idea blog, which is about the joy of projects. If you look at my upcoming publishing schedule I have 26 books coming up through the end of 2019. The rest of the Seasons books, the MM novella featuring character from the Wicked Woodley series, the 1783 Club series (more on that coming when we get closer to the end of Seasons) and then a REALLY fun novella series that will happen EVERY MONTH in 2019 (yup, 12 books, 12 months).… [Read more...]

Not Doing Everything

On Monday, my husband and I went to the new house we just bought and did the inspection and had the contractors come for some renovations we’ll be doing once we close. It was a whirlwind couple of days with a long drive up and back (6 hours total) and then the long day at the house. On Tuesday, An Affair in Winter (Seasons 1) released. At some point, I was talking to my husband about doing a garage sale and he said, “We Not Doing Everything at Once.”… [Read more...]

It’s a New Series!

An Affair in Winter by Jess Michaels

Today is such an exciting day for me, it’s the launch of a new series. Yes, after a year and a half in the related worlds of the Flynns and Woodleys, Seasons is here!

The Seasons series has been in my head for a long time. I was originally planning to write it for another publisher and when I went indie, it got pushed back so that I could write expanded series for the Flynns and Woodleys.… [Read more...]

Fresh and New Starts

Today my husband and I are driving up to a town about three hours north of where we live now in Tucson. It’s not just to see the fireworks in a mountain town or hang out at the World’s Oldest Rodeo (though both those things are on the menu). It’s actually also about new starts.

The past few years have been…odd. Oh yes, I left traditional publishing and launched my indie career and it has been more successful than I could ever have hoped.… [Read more...]
