Fresh Friday: June 24, 2016

Welcome to Fresh Friday. Every Friday I’ll be posting a short excerpt from whatever I wrote or edited that week! This will usually be an unedited small excerpt and I don’t make any promises that every single thing I post will make it to a finished book (sometimes things get cut). But it’s a fun sneak peek at whatever is Fresh Friday!!

This week I finished the second book in the Seasons series, A Spring Deception.… [Read more...]

Audio Madness!

One of the coolest things about being an independent author is that we (my husband/assistant and I) get to progress my career however I want. The hard thing is, we do all the stuff to progress my career however we want. 🙂 This means making decisions and following through on all the steps.

One of the steps in 2015 was starting to produce audio books. I know a lot of you are voracious listeners as well as readers and I love being able to provide that mode of delivery.… [Read more...]

Question Wednesday: Motivations

Every week I answer a question from a reader or writer here on my blog. You can add a question to the queue by putting it in the comments on any blog. This week’s question is from Vicki Dougherty-Magnuson:

What motivated you to write? What keeps you motivated?

I always had a lot of stories in my head and wrote as a kid. I wanted to be a writer, but didn’t really believe that a person could make a living at such a thing (because that’s what everyone tells you).… [Read more...]

Beautiful Distraction is OUT!!

BeautifulDistraction72lgWell, the day is finally here! Beautiful Distraction is out!! A release day is always special (and stressful) for me and this one is no different. Why?

First: Because it’s the last book in The Pleasure Wars series. It’s been a favorite of mine and judging from your feedback, also of yours. So much so that none of us wanted to let it end and I added this last novella.

Second: Because it’s a very different story.… [Read more...]

Lisa Valdez: Erotic Historical Romance Monday

Hi everyone! I know a lot of you are big fans of today’s Erotic Historical Romance Monday featured author, after her revolutionary Passion (which came out in 2005) and its follow-up in 2010, PatienceSo I hope you will join me in giving a big welcome to Lisa Valdez!

IT’S NEVER “JUST SEX”
Lisa Valdez

Sex gets a bad wrap in our country. Besides the often-bemoaned admission that “sex sells,” it is rarely spoken of in polite company, it is barely taught outside the obligatory “health” class, and it is most definitely not encouraged or promoted within the context of “moral” dialogue.… [Read more...]

Question Wednesday: Writing Outside the Genre

Every week I answer a question from a reader or writer here on my blog. You can add a question to the queue by putting it in the comments on any blog.

This week’s question is from Tonya Callihan:

Is there a genre you haven’t written, but would love to?

You know, I’ve written historical romance (not erotic) and I’ve written urban fantasy, both were really fun. But when I decided to focus all my attention on erotic historical romance last year, I felt a huge weight come off my shoulders.… [Read more...]

Taken By the Duke is out!!!!

TakenByTheDukeSmallHave I ever mentioned what a tangle of emotions I feel on a release day? First, I’m excited because there’s another book out. And I LOVE this book so much, especially. I feel like I’ve been waiting for it forever.

But there’s also so much fear and anxiety. What if none of you buy it? What if all of you hate it? I lay awake the night before and just… brood. It’s very alpha hero of me, I promise.… [Read more...]

Welcome Guest Author Sarah Granger!

Over the next few months, I’ll be hosting a variety of other authors here at the blog! I’m very pleased to welcome Sarah Granger first, who writes m/m erotic romance and is talking to us today about transitioning from contemporary to historical romance:

Hi everyone, and thanks so much to Jess for having me here. I’m especially excited to be on Jess’s blog because I’m a big fan of Regency romances. My first Regency novel, A Minor Inconvenience, is due to be published by Samhain next January.… [Read more...]

Write What You Know… Or Not

Re-published from my Jesse Petersen blog.

A few months ago, I was part of the Tucson Festival of Books and one of the panels I was assigned to was “Write What You Know”. We don’t actually pick our topics, so I laughed when I saw it because it’s so far from how I feel about writing. This is what I said during my part of the panel:

I’ve never understood the whole concept of write what you know.… [Read more...]

My 3 Favorite Things About Writing Romance (And Reading It)

Being a romance writer is pretty awesome. I mean, seriously awesome. Not only do I get to write stories for a living, from my own home, in my pajamas, but other people actually read those stories. Which is often strange and more often just a great feeling. But there are three things that are my favorite about writing romance:

1. The Grand Idea. There’s nothing better than sitting in my living room, laying in my bed or standing in the shower and having an amazing idea pop into my head.… [Read more...]
